Introduction
As soon as the ascension of the Trump happened in the Oval office, one thing that has always garnered considerable attention is the way treatment of the immigrants is going to be carried out (Haddal & Gertler, 2016). As a matter of fact, Trump is one of the few presidents who is very clear with regards to what he wants in terms of the way Homeland security and the role that border control tends to play in this regard (Haddal & Gertler, 2016). One thing that has gained considerable discussion is that what is going to happen to the infamous wall that he plans to construct towards the Mexican borders. This whole issue has raised considerable debate with regards to its practical effects and whether it is going to be working out in the long term or not (Haddal & Gertler, 2016). The same thing is going to be discussed during this paper with regards to the way effectiveness of the border wall is going to be working out. By considerable discussion, it means that there is enough public scrutiny and debate that is already carried out (Haddal & Gertler, 2016).
Research Question
In this paper, it is going to be seen that whether such an initiative is going to be successful in the long run or it is too wishful for such thing to happen in the long run at the given point of time (Haddal & Gertler, 2016). Thus, one question that this research is going to look to answer is that whether such an initiative is going to make the border any safer or whether it is a practical approach towards making sure better controls are obtained (Haddal & Gertler, 2016) . The research question thus is that whether the Wall that is intended to be constructed on Mexico border is feasible or not (Haddal & Gertler, 2016).
Hypothesis
The main hypothesis of the paper is what are the implications of construction a wall towards the border and what are some of the broader repercussions in this regard?
Methodology and Research Strategy
During this research, the idea is to make sure that the existing host of material is being looked and based on that, it would be seen what some of the prevailing theories are that one gets to see in terms of the homeland security (Haddal & Gertler, 2016). The other thing that is going to be done is that what are some of the theoretical implications of the theory and the key concerns that are needed to be witnessed when a wall of such massive scale is going to be constructed (Haddal & Gertler, 2016). At the same time, the other thing that is very important in terms of the way proper determination of the homeland security issues is being done is that how some of the other countries are coping with the similar issue and what are some of the remedial actions that are taken in this regard (Morrissey & Warner, 2018). The research strategy is going to be completely comprising on the secondary research and based on that premises, the determination is going to be made as far as the way what are some of the repercussions of constructing such a wall on border (Haddal & Gertler, 2016).
Literature Review
One of the thing that Trump has called out for a very long time is the fact that how the immigration crisis is one of the biggest issues that is faced by the American populace at the moment and what are some of the thing that are needed to be done to make sure that the degree of control is achieved in this regard (Carter & Poast, 2017) . Time and time again, Trump has talked about the whole issue as a humanitarian crisis that is bound to affect the security situation in the long run (Haddal & Gertler, 2016). One thing that has been focal point of his speeches with regards to the border control is the construction of the wall (Haddal & Gertler, 2016). Even though such a measure sounds drastic for the Americans, but it is not the first time that such measures are going to be taken to make sure that the degree of control is witnessed in terms of the border control (Bolkcom & Nuñez, 2018). There have been many instances in the past that how the stricter border controls have not really contributed much when it comes to making sure that the degree of control is adopted when it comes to the border control (Gilmartin & Wood, 2018). The first thing that is needed to be done in this regard (Bolkcom & Nuñez, 2018). The other thing that is very important in this regard is that how the long-term theoretical implications in this case are supposed to work and how the Borderland and Homeland security officials are needed to be taking care of the long needs and wants of the organization at the given point of time (Bolkcom & Nuñez, 2018).
Theoretical Implications of the Issue
There are many key theories that are floated around when it comes to the way homeland and border security is needed to be taken care off (Bolkcom & Nuñez, 2018). The idea behind the border security concerns is to make sure that how the eventual homeland security is something that is needed to be managed along both sides of the border (Bolkcom & Nuñez, 2018). The idea is to make sure that the vulnerability that is witnessed in terms of the border relations is needed to be managed (Bolkcom & Nuñez, 2018). The management of the relations is one of the key things that stakeholders must make sure that when they are looking after the borderland security (Carter & Poast, 2017). Most of the theories in this regard imply that in order to make sure that the issues along the borders are being resolved, it is imperative that some sort of effort is being made with regards to the way relations between border sharing countries are needed to be worked out (Bolkcom & Nuñez, 2018).
Opening the Borders or Closing Them
One needs to look at the historical precedent in this regard to make sure that the assessment is being with regards to the way whether border forces are effective when it comes to making sure that the degree of control can be developed in terms of the immigration population. Now, as compared to the United States, Europe tends to be facing the immigrant population at much greater level (Bolkcom & Nuñez, 2018). As per the research, about 1.3 billion immigrants have entered Europe in last year or so, on the other hand, when one talks about the United States, the number is less than a million (Gilmartin & Wood, 2018). Most of the immigrants have arrived in the EU countries by foot (Pickering & Weber, 2017). At the same time, there is a minor population that have used the Mediterranean ocean to enter the North American shores when it comes to the entering the EU countries (Gilmartin & Wood, 2018). Europe has taken different approach (Eschbach et al, 2016). Europe has not been able to control the immigrant population that is trying to enter its country (Gilmartin & Wood, 2018). Looking at the border walls in the EU though, and the number is astonishing in the sense that there are five borders walls that are constructed in the EU now (Eschbach et al, 2016). That is in addition to the high-tech cameras and equipment used by these countries to make sure that they bring about the degree of control when it comes to controlling the immigrant population at the given point of time (Eschbach et al, 2016) .
Why Measures such as Wall are Not a Good Idea
One thing that history has taught us is that whenever any effort is being made to make sure that the flow of immigrants is being stopped, the greater inflow of the immigrant has been witnessed (Eschbach et al, 2016). The key thing that must be kept in mind in this regard is to make sure that why such measures have not turned out to be a success (Gilmartin & Wood, 2018). The example of the migrants that are crossing through Balkan region comes to mind when they come to the Europe and it becomes clear that how they are willing to come to these countries even though the immigrant conditions are far from ideal (Eschbach et al, 2016). Before the construction of the walls in this region, the migrants used to travel in the form of the groups (Fernández & Massey, 2017). Sometimes they were travelling with the group of smugglers and sometimes no help was required from the smugglers (Pickering & Weber, 2017). When the walls and other such barriers are created, they tend to create immigration condition that are quite dangerous as compared to the usual precedent most of the times as then people who are deputed at the border forces are given to be submissive most of the times (Fernández & Massey, 2017) . The greater the barriers are, the higher is the amount of bribe that is taken by these people in exchange of their services (Eschbach et al, 2016). They then tend to use all sorts of measures such as hiding the migrants in the truck or walking them through the EU borders during the night time when the conditions are far from ideal for the travelling (Fernández & Massey, 2017). The idea is that if such measures are not likely to be successful most of the times and they create unnecessary issues for the people who want to bring about the level of control in terms of the way border movements are needed to be carried out (Fernández & Massey, 2017). The problem that Europe though is facing now is that the refugee crisis which was not handled well by them as now become a housing crisis now (Fernández & Massey, 2017) . The measures constitute some of the ways through border security could be done in a much more coordinated manner with better results (Eschbach et al, 2016).
Stopping the Migrants and Increasing the Border Control
Italy has come up with a solution of its own where they tend to outsource the borderland security and they tend to use the fund at their disposal to make sure that the other countries and borders bring about stringent controls in terms of the way whole thing is supposed to be managed all the time (Fernández & Massey, 2017). The biggest problem with such an approach is that there seems to be gross violation of the human rights that is witnessed in such cases when the border security is being outsourced as the other governments that are being paid to make sure that the migrants are being controlled resort to some methods that are questionable in terms of the way they provide border control (Fernández & Massey, 2017).
Legal Issues with the Wall
The other major issue is that the wall is going to create host of legal issues for the United States government (Slack et al, 2017). Entities such as Federal government must make sure that they prioritize things in the right manner in terms of the way controls are needed to be developed. The private ownership in such an issue is going to be a big problem since how the accountability and controls are going to be developed by the government (Fernández & Massey, 2017) . The other major factor is that the border patrol agencies that are currently working in the United States are doing their job in an appropriate manner (Fernández & Massey, 2017). Taking Congress on board for such an issue means that it must be showed that why border security is such an important issue at the given point of time (Fernández & Massey, 2017). Keeping in mind the number of immigrants that are travelling in vast number towards United States, it is fair to assume that there is going to be lot of political leveraging done to bring people on board for construction of wall . The legislation that is needed to be carried out in terms of the construction of the wall is something that has to be managed at very extensive level and at times, the amount of effort that is needed to be required to get a go ahead for such an issue is not worth the benefits that it is providing in the long run and it would be better if time and resources are used in some other manner (Wein et al, 2016).
