HIV/AIDS Essay
HIV/AIDs is a highly infectious disease, and it can easily transfer from one person to another. However, drug-addicted people have higher chances of getting HIV/AIDs. People who are involved in injecting drugs are at risk because when they exchange the needles with the people having AIDs can get the disease. The injections usually contain drops of blood, and it includes HIV in it. Likewise, drinking high level of Alcohol is also associated with increased risks for HIV. People who are drunk cannot figure out the situations normally, and they can easily get into activities which transfer HIV/AIDs. In addition, substance abuse people engage in dangerous sexual behaviors while they are under-influence of drugs. Other times, substance abuse people get into risky sexual activities for the sake of drugs (Williams, 2016).
If drug-addicted patients are adequately treated, then they can minimize the risks of HIV/AIDs. It is already discussed that substance usage controls the mind of people and influence them to get into hazardous activities. Prevention is one of the crucial steps to avoid the higher risks of HIV/AIDs. There are several ways to overcome the negative consequences of the usage of the drug. Firstly, through social regulation, the availability of drugs will be reduced. Therefore, prohibiting drugs or alcohol reduces problems related to drugs. Secondly, there are various methods of treatment designed for substance abuse people. The greater access to those treatments can decrease the risks of diseases like HIV/AIDs. The life expectancy increases with some useful strategies to make the drug-addicted people recover. The substance abuse people need multiple treatments, not just drugs prevention treatment. A medical professional should assist the substance abuse of people in detoxification. Other associated issues like medical, psychological and legal problems should be dealt with appropriately. Moreover, relapse prevention is cognitive behavior, and through proper counseling, a person can stop using harmful drugs.
