Hawaiian Archipelago
Towards the south-west of the North American continent, there lies an archipelago of islands known as the Hawaiian Islands. These islands were formed about millions of years ago in a series of volcano eruptions that created a series of small islands. Today, volcanoes are still an active feature of Hawaii. Numerous volcanoes are present in this US state. Researchers featuring geologists found out that these volcanoes came into existence because of the fault within tectonic plates. This resulted in many earthquakes which pushed the magma out of the earth. These earthquakes are still an essential feature of Hawaiian geography. The hot lava then dried upon the surface of the sea to form these Hawaii islands.
This process of the flow of magma has not stopped even today. That is why there are active volcanoes present in the region so that the natural expansion of the Hawaiian Islands continues. Kilauea is the most active and considered to be the dangerous volcano in the state which has injured a large number of surrounding people.
Out of approximately 19 islands, the dense population of the state is found in O’ahu and Molok’ai (Springer, 2010). Other islands also inhabit some people no matter if their settlements are near active volcanoes. Some people intentionally live near active volcanoes because their survival relies in those ashes as volcanoes offer geothermal energy which nearby communities can use to avail power resources such as electricity. Moreover, some people think that the scenic beauty which Hawaii offers, it’s worth a risk to live near volcanoes (Brady, 2018). Even I would take a chance to live near Kilauea! Considering the fact that the eruptions have killed no one in Hawaii in recent times; for instance, the recent Kilauea eruptions in mid of 2018 have caused injuries to several people, but no fatalities were reported.
The Hawaiian Islands are incredibly diverse. Numerous species are only found in Hawaii and not anywhere else in the world. This may be because Hawaii islands emerged on earth in a way in which no other country appeared. There may be migrating wildlife native to Hawaii that although may be found in other places in the world as well. However, from the perspective of origin of place, they may only be found indigenous to Hawaii.
