Response to Question 1
In a movie, Female Sexual Dysfunction FSD is defined as the disability of a woman in various ways to participate in sexual activities, and she wishes to get pleasure and enjoy while having sexual intercourse but does not get any of it (Canner, 2011). Whereas textbook explains it in a broader way and discusses various impacts that are involved in causing different kinds of disorders regarding FSD. It is elaborated as the dysfunction of the body of female to produce desired changes in its chemistry while performing sexual activities (CARROLL, 2017). There are many sexual and nonsexual functions that are involved in the contribution of the development of Female Sexual Dysfunction (CARROLL, 2017). Under the influence of such factors, a person finds it difficult to feel pleasure, participate and show passion in sexual activities. The pharmaceutical industry VIVUS researched that apart from the sexual issues of men, females also experience sexual dysfunction. They decided Viagra should not be the only option and after thorough research, they developed an erectile dysfunction drug, named as Avanafil which is recommended in case of FSD (Canner, 2011).
According to the book, there are many psychological and physiological factors that challenge sexual functioning. If an individual is experiencing or feeling anxiety, guilt, unconscious fear, depression, abandonment, ongoing stress, fear of intimacy, and concerns for loss of control, it will encourage the development of FSD (CARROLL, 2017). Similarly, if the person has injuries, diseases, illness, and disabilities, it can interfere with the sexual functions of an individual. Moreover, if the person is under the treatment of some disease, such as radiation and chemotherapy, such treatments also contribute to FSD (CARROLL, 2017). Other than that, cultural and religious factors and individual vulnerability factor are involved in developing FSD as well (CARROLL, 2017).
Response to Question 2
Media portrays that women are more desperate for initiating sex and they play a more aggressive role as compared to real life. It has been shown that women enjoy more and always have orgasms while having sex. When young viewers see such kind of content, their perception about sex changes and they consider orgasm as an essential part of sex. Women do not feel like their partner is meeting their desires as their expectations and desires about sex and orgasms get higher. This creates barriers between partners and results in FSD in women. Expressions, appearance, and reactions of women are shown as glamorous and over exaggerated which are unreal in sexual life. When women do not experience practically what they have seen over media, it lets down their expectation from their sexual partners. If both partners discuss about the orgasms of the female with the health professional, they might get a lot information about the ways through which they can improve this particular thing while having sex, but it also raises the expectations of female, and if they are not met, it causes the development of an emotional barrier between partners.
Because of the taboos surrounding sex, it is often quite difficult to find credible sex education resources. Organizations like The Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health is an adult sex-education center based out of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Their goal is to reduce sexual shame, challenge misrepresentation, and advance the field of sexuality. They coordinate professional trainings for doctors and other care takers. American Sexual Health Association encourages the sexual health of families and people by supporting sound policies and encouraging people to adopt healthy sexual relationships. They offer information on sexual health as well and womens and mens health. They also have resources for parents, health providers and teachers.
Response to Question 3
The popularity of labiaplasty is not only because of aesthetics, but elongations of the tissues of labia also cause discomfort while performing different physical activities (Miklos, 2008). For instance, if a woman is an athlete, it will be quite discomforting for her if her elongated labia tissues come in the way. Moreover, women feel self-conscious about their outward appearance of genitalia, as it may cause psychological or emotional agony while having sexual activities. On the other hand, vaginal rejuvenation is yet another process that is related to the inner vaginal canal of the female. It deals with the treatments of several physiological changes that affect the pelvic floor, vaginal wall and vaginal canal of the woman which mostly occur because of menopause or vaginal birth. It is related to the health of the females that is why female find it important to go through a procedure like this. After both of these surgeries, women feel more confident, comfortable and excited in having sex. It is because of aesthetics and desired physical approach, and both partners involve in their sexual relationships more passionately. Moreover, it also reduces the chances of FSD in women that might have caused by emotional or physical disturbances. Hence, both partners find more connection in their sexual intercourse.
I dont think I need these surgeries because I dont have elongated tissues that require labiaplasty. I am completely satisfied with the aesthetics of my vagina and I feel confident about it. Moreover, I have never been through vaginal birth or menopause, so I dont need vaginal rejuvenation as my vagina is normal and perfect in condition. If I had a chance in the future because of any of the discussed circumstances may be I would prefer it because why not as I am a self-conscious person and I feel good if I do what is best for my body and my sexual health.
