Nature
The nature of qualitative research is holistic. By this, it means that the research question takes into consideration all the factors linked with the issue or problem under study ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"aTFcEs5n","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(Holloway & Galvin, 2016)","plainCitation":"(Holloway & Galvin, 2016)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":231,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/Tqq4tlqy/items/5LA78VWZ"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/Tqq4tlqy/items/5LA78VWZ"],"itemData":{"id":231,"type":"book","title":"Qualitative research in nursing and healthcare","publisher":"John Wiley & Sons","ISBN":"1-118-87447-1","author":[{"family":"Holloway","given":"Immy"},{"family":"Galvin","given":"Kathleen"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2016"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (Holloway & Galvin, 2016).
The nature of quantitative research is particularistic which means that the research question is focused on only one aspect of the problem and fails to recognize the impact of other factors on the research problem
Sampling
Due to the holistic nature of the research, it is cardinal to meticulously define the target population so to avoid deviation from the issue. Therefore it uses purposive sampling
Random sampling technique is used for this type of research because of a larger sampling size. Another reason is that since quantitative research does not perform an in-depth study on the issue therefore random sampling is used to get the general idea of the people regarding the issue.
Data
The analysis of the data is based on verbal narratives like stories, case studies and in-depth insight about a particular topic. It is challenging to present the data in statistics.
The data is presented and analyzed in statistical form. The results can easily be compared with other related studies and unlike qualitative research, the data can easily be comprehended.
Hypothesis
Since Qualitative research is a holistic study, therefore, it is difficult to develop a clear tested hypothesis. Hence hypothesis is generated.
The data in the numerical form is easily translated into a statement which can reject or support the hypothesis. Thus the hypothesis is tested
Elements of analysis
Stories, pictures, observations, and environment play a critical role in the analysis of the data ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION {"citationID":"8ahMTOXz","properties":{"formattedCitation":"(LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2017)","plainCitation":"(LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2017)","noteIndex":0},"citationItems":[{"id":168,"uris":["http://zotero.org/users/local/Tqq4tlqy/items/NW3LBRWH"],"uri":["http://zotero.org/users/local/Tqq4tlqy/items/NW3LBRWH"],"itemData":{"id":168,"type":"book","title":"Nursing research: Methods and critical appraisal for evidence-based practice","publisher":"Elsevier Health Sciences","ISBN":"0-323-44765-1","author":[{"family":"LoBiondo-Wood","given":"Geri"},{"family":"Haber","given":"Judith"}],"issued":{"date-parts":[["2017"]]}}}],"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"} (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2017).
Only the data in the numerical form is used for analysis of the study.
Example
To study the impact of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection on the nursing practice
To study the impact of the use of protocols on the number of patients suffering from Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection.
