What is the strength or validity of the argument

In the CNN town hall debate on climate change, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth warren seemed to oppose the matter of using nuclear as a source of energy in the United States. The validity of their argument comes from the fact that the nuclear waste is scientifically regarded dangerous since it can stay for as long as ten years and similar nuclear accidents are considered to be nightmares since people can easily die by just inhaling unseen radioactive unseen nuclear fumes. Therefore nuclear has been characterized to be as bad as coal if not worse.

What resources are referenced to support the argument

Nuclear reactors do not last forever and therefore would need time after time replacement which turns to be costly to the economy and the taxpayers. Therefore based on their argument, instead of using a lot of money to replace the reactors. The money should be used to establish renewable sources of energy that are less disastrous and easy to manage. A recent study also states that a total number of 3.6 million people usually die prematurely because of fossil fuels air pollution.

What if any gaps or error in logic are present

Nuclear energy is the third relied on energy in America after coal and natural gas. It is therefore hard to do away with it given the fact that they provide nearly a fifth of the United States electricity and with the fact that coal is used based on its effect on global warming. It would be hard to build up the hydroelectricity and wind to cover up for the nuclear energy in case it is done away with. Given the fact that these two renewable sources of energy which are the wind and solar are seasonal and both need backup since they lack consistency. Similarly eliminating nuclear energy may not be the way to solve the environmental pollution problem. This is because nuclear energy is always recommended for environmental decarburization. A good example was France that implemented this method of energy consumption and recorder a drop in carbon emission annually between the year 1979 and 1988 of 2.9. It is therefore advised that we discernment should be advocated when trying to tackle this issue.
