Character and Ethics of an Educator
An individual who facilitates people in learning or acquiring knowledge is called a teacher. Being a teacher is my responsibility to help all my students in learning new things. I would want to serve in early childhood or elementary level of education. Early childhood education is very important as it is the building block upon which a child's future is based. The things learned at this level will help them throughout their life. Currently, I teach preschool children and sometimes also had interaction with the toddlers. The reason I choose to serve this level of education in my future is that I love how they are curious about everything and how quickly they grasp different concepts that are taught to them. Additionally, teaching this level will help me in improving myself because children at this stage copy their teacher so I had to make myself perfect so that I can set an example for them.
The six pillars of character should be taught at an early stage as this can facilitate children a lot. Introducing the concept of values and responsibility can help in positively shaping their personality ("The Six Pillars of Character," n.d.). However, children at this stage it is difficult to teach children these complex words so I have decided to explain them by allocating each pillar with a specific color. Furthermore, just telling them about the pillars is not enough it is important to implement these pillars as well. So I will reinforce verbal praise or reward. Also, I will develop several activities that will incorporate community and parents so that they can learn about caring and citizenship. I will also explain the concept of good citizens by teaching them some rules and regulations such as do not throw garbage on the street and do not hurt or bully anyone, etc. By utilizing these small techniques I will be able to teach them six pillars of a character successfully.
