Ruby Rae Spiegel’s play “Dry Land” portrays the themes of abortion and female sexuality. It transmits the themes of conservativeness and the typical political landscapes that impose strict restrictions over the females. lack of power to take such bold decisions results in self-destruction that becomes visible in the decision of suicide.

The play uses drama genre by stressing on the lives of young girls who attempt to get rid of their unwanted pregnancies. The drama genre is used to portraying the sadistic aspects of the females who struggle to get rid of the unwanted child. The genre used dark humour for criticizing the conservative role of the society that restricts females from choosing their own lives. The social norms and traditional values prevent them from living a free life.

The rising action becomes apparent when a 16-years old girl Amy signs blue at the tips while Ester punches her in the gut. The girls are talking about abortion and Ester helps Amy in getting her done with the thing. This becomes more visible when Ester sits on Amy's stomach and tries to empty her stomach or by killing the fetus. Antecedent action appears when the friends exhibit their tension over pregnancy. Amy is three months pregnant from her ex-boyfriend.

The climax becomes more discernible when the Ester pushes Amy hard and tries to end her pregnancy. This reflects how young girls are fighting over their bodies and freedom. The attempt of abortion reflects their desire for attaining freedom. This reveals their sadistic state and transmits the dark humour.

The transformation of Amy from a fun girl to a strong woman reflects significant character development. Her journey of abortion makes her witness the realities of the world. She experience real transformation by experiencing harsh realities.
