Individual Reflective Journal
For determining the success of the organization, academic theory in the selection and recruitment of individuals for filling out the positions in the organization is hugely critical and crucial. In my organization, I have the directive to ensure that the people or individuals hired for filling the positions in the organization would be and should be highly qualified who can contribute to the organization and its long terms success through increasing the overall productivity. For achieving these, I would come up with a well-designed organizational chart. This organizational chart would make me able to choose the people who are qualified and can contribute to the ranks of my leading in a positive manner and way (Nikolaou, and Oostrom, 2015).
Most of the organizations face issues in finding and hiring an individual who are fully fit for their ranks to keep the organization growing. The statement would not be wrong that if an organization has given an opportunity to hire its employees again, then they would hardly hire 30 to 40 per cent of their existing employees (Nikolaou, and Oostrom, 2015).
Most of the organizations who used the recruitment theories have been affected inversely because most of those theories are outdated. I can be found a leader having several competencies and qualities who can lead and steer the team to the next level and can hire fully fine and right people for each job which would ensure an increase in production. Being a leader, I need to study the traits of the people (applicants) in the process of recruitment. It would make me able to find and hire the perfect fits for every posts or position (Muller, and Turner, 2017). Being a team leader it is crucial to develop a perfect set of individuals for the jobs as a perfect set of employees enhances the level of production. Hence, it would make it convenient for me to manage the team effectively while ensuring the enhancement/increase in production level.
Being a leader, maintain and then mentoring right and potential individuals is a vital role to be played all the time. This can be accomplished through the concept of talent management. This is the procedure of finding new talent and then developing them so that the organization can be benefited in an effective way in the present and the coming future. I also have been mentored by several senior leaders. So similarly, I also have to take part in mentoring junior so that they would be the leaders in future (Fries, 2019). Hence, being a leader, talent management is very crucial for me as every new leader comes through its process (talent management).
In my growth as a leader, every online source that I have accessed in the past has helped me a lot. The materials in the resources have enabled me to identify things which are helpful for a person to become a better individual and a great leader. The online resources also helped me to know the actual traits of a good leader. Means the traits that make a person a good leader in general or when leading a specific team. These sources also made me able to look at the great leaders, learn from them and develop my skills and abilities accordingly. Leaders are the people who are shaped according to societys needs and knowing such things would help and or someone else to become a better person and leader (Muller, and Turner, 2017). Because such understanding and knowledge would enable me to become a leader that my society is in need of.
The online resources are also helpful for me when facing trouble as they assist to find out the solution in trouble or crises. Being a leader, it is also important for me that how I handle a situation of crises I or my tea faces. This is the area (managing and handling crises) where my leadership and key skills are judged and tested. It another fortunate that online resources assisted me to gain knowledge regarding how to act and manage tough situations. In short, online sources have assisted me that being a leader how should I act in a situation where my team faces a crisis.
The application and hugeness of every recruitment and talent management theory are very crucial for me to become an effective leader who always makes the team able to win. As well as to ensure the increase in the production level of my organization. These recruitment and talent management theories would make sure that the organization finds and gets perfect candidates for each of the positions and production level while making sure that the organization is retaining the best talent at hand and develop it as well. It would also ensure the progress of workforce efficiency and development at the organization while any of the future leaders can be identified and mentored with the help of these theories. Beyond that, these theories are also the sources that guide individuals and leaders like me and let the leaders know that what they have to do while what they should neglect. In short, it can be said that being a leader it would be much difficult to lead without having the concept of those theories.
As every coin has two sides, the application of these recruitment and talent management theories also brings up some challenges with themselves. The issues can be the interpretation of application by the theories by several levels. It is a fact that an issue interpreted by one would be different from the interpretation done by another one. Hence these bring in conflicts for every leader and all leaders that how these theories can assist and how they can be utilized in routine activities (Nikolaou, and Oostrom, 2015). These concerns/issues are different from one point to another due to the role they play in developing new leaders while ensuring that the organization has a fine workforce at hand.
The leadership theories fall into several subclasses. It is in the class discussion in which I actively took part and learnt how to be an effective leader. Becoming a leader or an effect is a long-lasting process where different traits are required for the person to learn as they are required for successful leaders. Here, the Great Man theory states that some people are born to be great leaders (Verrywell, 2019). This theory claims that some of the people can lead without studying something or learning leadership from others or books. In other words, the theory claims that some people are born to be leaders while they have not been made.
On the other side, trait theory (learnt from the class) is the theory which states that qualities of leadership pass from parents to children. Here the theory claims that the children would be leaders whose parents are leaders. Furthermore, the Contingency Theory is concerned about leadership and environmental issues. This theory states that individuals and leaders are mentored by their environment (Verrywell, 2019). So, based on this theory, the environment also plays a vital role and add huge traits to the person in becoming a successful or effective leader.
Based on the assessment feedback I received from my past tasks (assignments) in the way affected me as an individual that how I have worked and prepared myself for the coming assignment and exams. Based on the feedback, it is an alert for me to work more hard to get better grades. Beyond that, the feedback made me prepared how to face crisis ad find out ways to perform better when having a second chance. The assessment feedback also makes sure that there would be tough times to be faced while I would have to find ways on how to handle the situation or case at hand. Despite, the assessment assisted me to stand out in case of crises as well as stand my team and organization as it is required for me as a leader.
The psychometric test which I have taken for my leadership in the past has helped me to access myself and improve the areas of improvement. The test made it sure that I possess the qualities of leaders while I need to improve them for becoming an effective leader. My psychometric tests are also affected by my interpersonal traits. These test has identified that traits that are needed to be improved by me for ensuring myself as a better individual and an effective leader (Fries, 2019).
The aspects of my previous leadership skills have been shown by this test where I have to drop out some of the traits while gaining new ones which would help me to become a good and effective leader. Beyond that, the test also figured out some of my other interpersonal skills that I should improve to interact with the community and society in a better way. Additionally, I have to develop new relationships and improve associated skills for being getting them more advanced. So that they would assist me in my quest of being an effective leader.
Areas of Improvement
It is a fact that gaps exist everywhere. Similarly, there are some areas which I need to improve as a leader and as a common person. The points like being a true enthusiast. Hence they would assist my team to grow together an enjoy life and time while working which will lead to better production. I should also make myself the leader who is always concerned about the happiness of his/her team instead of only focusing on the organizations success and production (Fries, 2019). Hence, such traits will enable me to move forward to my team and ensure the success of every project or task done by my team.
Despite, second and a crucial area that I need to improve is integrity. For leaders, integrity is an important aspect and areas and the same is crucial for me. Here, I need our efforts to make sure that I possess the highest level of integrity while ensuring that my team also possesses the required level of integrity. This is a measurement of trustworthiness and this would be used by my seniors and team member to know the reality of my trust. It would also enable me to accept the gaps and shortcoming and work to cover them as well as teach it to each of my team members as well (Verrywell, 2019).
Furthermore, I also need to enhance my communication skills and capabilities. Communication skills and their improvement is very crucial for me as a leader because it would enable me to communicate with each of my team members while ensuring that the requirements and deals of my team are fine from external sources. Effective and strong communication would provide me with the capability to bargain for fine working conditions and make that every requirement of my team has been provided at the time and with enough amount. Because enough and efficient resources and their utilization by the team is the only way that would lead to better production and growth of the organization (James, and Stacey-Emile, 2019).
Loyalty is an area which should be kept improved all the time if a leader or a common person wants to be happy and successful as well as accomplish what they plan and want. Hence, loyalty is also a crucial and important thing that I should inject in my behaviour and personality. This would make me the person who is loyal to his/her team and thinks about the wellness of his/her team. As well as it would make me reward my team as per their accomplishments. This skills or area would ensure it to my team that their leader has an interest in their success and happiness as well and not only concerned about his/her goals accomplishment. In this case, the team would be feeling fine while opening to me and this would enable me to gain important information regarding how the working conditions of my team can be improved (Verrywell, 2019).
Finally, the capability of acting with decisiveness would assist me a lot in both as a leader and as a common person (James, and Stacey-Emile, 2019). This capability and decisive acting would enable me to deal with my team in an efficient way which would lead to increased production and higher growth of the organization. Also, my team members would be benefited by having a leader who makes wise and effective decisions while having no doubts while making/taking any decision. It would also ensure the leader (I) establishes and lead the team in a fine and right way while allowing the team to trust in their leaders (me) decisions which he/she taken while they are also been taken into huge considerations.
