Leadership is the ability of an individual or a group to influence the group of people, commonly referred to as followers. Leadership is considered as one of the most important attributes of business executives. In the absence of leadership all the other business elements. The role of leadership in an organization has given more significance since the development of leadership theories. Leaders adopt different styles and approaches to leadership, often based on the situation they face. This paper seeks to demonstrate the leadership style of a business leader and the impact of his leadership on the health of the organization. The leader was interviewed regarding his leadership styles and the impact he observed on the effectiveness of the organization.
I interviewed an entrepreneur, who owns a restaurant locally. I worked for him almost for half a year and his little actions and decisions reflected his leadership skills and style. Based on the interview it can be assessed that his leadership styles are not limited to one, rather it is the combination of more than one approaches. He developed a vision for his organization and made his employees trust in his novel and unique ideas. He not only identified the strength of his unique ideas and also held the ability to lead others towards his goals. Other characteristics of visionary leadership identified in him are risk-taking, listening to others opinions and taking responsibility for his actions. In addition, he believes in obtaining input and feedback from the employees regarding the companys decisions, and decisions regarding human resource activities. Such leadership style is referred to as democratic and participating style.
Employees feedback is given importance and their engagement is highly encouraged in the company. Organizational goals and objectives are communicated to the employees and their contribution is highly encouraged in the attainment of those objectives.
In his interview, he revealed the growing performance of the restaurant since its formation. Since he believes in the significance of human capital for the success and productivity of the organization. His leadership style results in customer satisfaction through his personnel. According to him, the health of an organization is not merely reflected in the numbers and revenues yet it is also demonstrated in the employees satisfaction along with customer satisfaction. Moreover, in comparison with the previous performance, the improvement in the policies, procedures, predictability and the customer reviews of the restaurant was easy to assess and witness. With the increase in profits and revenues, employees wages also rise resulting in a prominent increase in employees satisfaction. The visionary leaders are more focused and act as a searchlight for others. In the same way, the strong vision of creating a happy place for customers, employees while working towards the good for the community. Participative leadership has resulted in high employee engagement and involvement that is solely responsible for customer satisfaction in the restaurant. All the employee work together to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization. The leader also believes that his leadership style has contributed to the health of the organization.
Since I was part of that organization I was very much familiar with the leadership traits of the restaurant owner. That is why I chose to interview him for the sake of this assignment. He was very confident about his decisions, his visions, and his team. In addition, he has the ability to inspire others. At the same time, his other leadership skills include excellent communication, empathy, and decision-making skills. The social media of the restaurant reveals an increase in positive reviews and shows the picture of its growing fame. Employees were also involved in the assessment to investigate the impact of leadership skills on employees morale and satisfaction. Interview revealed employee satisfaction resulting from the standing of their voice and opportunity take part in organizational decision making. In addition, employees assured that their feedbacks are important for the management and they are also appreciated and rewarded for their better performance. My own experience with the leader and his organization was pretty good owing to the norms and values of the organization. A momentous relationship between the leadership style and health of organization was observed during this activity.
At its core, leadership is crucial and without leadership, all other elements of an organization lie dormant. An effective leader can directly influence the success and health of his organization, as revealed in this case. The employees of restaurant credit the owner for the increased performance and fame of the restaurant. The leadership styles combined with the other leadership traits and characteristics resulted in the success of the restaurant. The owner was able to move towards his vision with the help of his people and practicing leadership style relevant to his organization and its needs.
